Cancun With Kids: Our Guide to an All-Inclusive Family Vacation

Our family just returned back from our first time in Cancun, Mexico and had the best week. We were hosted at the Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort and it did not disappoint! From accommodations to activities, to food and fun, consider this your travel guide so you’ll know exactly where to stay, what to eat, and what to do for entertainment the next time you go to Cancun!*

The Property

The beachfront property is located in the Cancun Hotel Zone about 15 minutes from the Cancun airport and you can easily arrange shuttle transportation to take you to and from the airport. Once you arrive on property, you will be taken aback by its majestic beauty. The walk up to the lobby, the lobby itself, the outdoor grounds, and the rooms are all so new, clean, modern, and stunning. And the hotel staff are so kind, helpful, and attentive, more than I have evert seen at any other hotel we’ve ever been to. The property has about 450 rooms and suites, so you are bound to find one that fits in your budget. The resort is luxurious and also very family friendly and there were many children staying at the same time we were. The resort even has a kids club, called CAMP CLUB! My kids went to the club one afternoon and made candy sushi and played games! And don’t forget to drink some watermelon juice in the lobby, it’s the most refreshing and hydrating drink and you’ll love it!

Pro Tip: Bring small bills ($1 and $5) to tip serving staff throughout the day. I believe a lot of guests forget to do this becuase it’s an all-inclusive, but it makes a big difference! If you’d rather pay in pesos, you can order them from your bank a week before your trip. Whatever you don’t use (except coins), you can return when you get home!

There is also a fitness center, pickleball courts, salon, and an on-site urgent care!

The Rooms

We stayed in an Double Bed Ocean View Room and the spectacular view overlooked the pools and the beautiful turquoise Caribbean ocean, day and night. I highly recommend booking an ocean view, even if it costs a little extra, it will change the entire dynamic of your stay! And with unlimited room service included, you can enjoy multiple meals on your balcony, like we did with breakfast.

The Room Service

When you’re at an all-inclusive, unlimited, on-demand room service is available all day and all night! So when in Cancun, we ordered room service, as one does! And boy, it may have been the highlight of our trip! And when we ordered, it took less than 30 minutes to arrive.

The Food

This was our first time staying at an all-inclusive resort and we were blown away! I had been on cruises before, so I understood the concept, but this felt different and better somehow. Even though food and drink are included in the overall cost of your stay, for some reason it felt like I was saving money in the long run between getting unlimited morning lattes, ceviche, tacos, pizza, burgers, and ice cream for lunch, elaborate dinners at sit down restaurants (including a Hibachi meal where they make the food at your table), and ordering smoothies, milkshakes, mocktails, and cocktails at the swim up bars at the pool felt like an added luxury and I didn’t have to stress about what we ordered, how much we ordered, and our budget during every aspect of our trip. Once you are there, you can just relax and enjoy without worrying about any hidden or extra costs! I highly recommend the morning buffet! Alcoholic drinks are also included like well liquor, beer, and wine. If you want premium liquor, there is an extra charge and other drink packages available.

The Pools

There are two main pools, one is the large family-friendly pool and one is the quainter 18+ adult only infinity pool. There are swim up bars at both pools. There is also a good-size splash pad area with a giant water dumping bucket, a lazy river, and two waterslides! The resort offers daily pool games and activities and even exercise classes in the pool! And music all day!

The Activities

When we were there, the entire family attended a hosted mocktail mixology class at the lobby bar and it was so fun! We had a private class with a talented bartender that taught us how to make 3 different drinks, and all of them were so good! We all had so much fun!

Other resort activities and entertainment can be found on signage in the lobby!

The Shopping

There were plenty of shops in the lobby, some with included food and drinks, and some for swim gear and souvenirs. But anything you needed was available!

The Evening Views

The resort sunrise, sunset, and evening views were just as gorgeous at night.

The Renovations

I also want to note that the Marriott Cancun also just underwent a massive multi-million dollar renovation and the entire property looks very modern, clean, and luxurious. From the lobby to the outdoor showers at the beach, so much detail went into making this resort shine.

Thank you to the Marriott Cancun for hosting us and being so good to us while we were there. We can’t wait to come back one day!
