Mother’s Day may be over but that doesn’t mean self care needs to be. But let’s be honest, how are you supposed to self care when you are quarantined at home without a moment to yourself, when you exhausted from working, parenting, homeschooling, cooking, cleaning, and entertaining your children all day, etc. Spas, salons, and gyms are closed so what are you to do? There are rare moments that I actually have some energy and intentionally take time for myself and actually curl up with a new book, put together a puzzle, get a full garage workout in, or even take a warm bath, but realistically I can’t do those things everyday.
But here’s the thing. Self care is vital to being mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy. It’s important to take care of ourselves to be the best parents we can be and to also set a positive example to our children that WE matter and we take care of ourselves. Treating yourself to some self care is a way to show yourself some respect. And now we need this type of wellness in our lives more than ever! So I came up with 5 ways you can self care in 5 minutes on a daily basis that can easily fit into your daily routine, even in quarantine!
TOP 5 “Five Minute” Daily Self Care Ideas for Moms
Facial Mask
Whether you shower or not that day, put on a facial mask of your choice either in the morning, afternoon, or evening. It only takes a minute to put on, a few minutes to harden, and a minute to wash off. You will feel a little like you were at the spa for just a few minutes and the benefits to your skin and mood will last throughout the day! One of my new favorites is a Turmeric mask and moisture blend from Emanate Essentials.
It is made with gentle clays, oat flour, and apple and comes with a herbal serum that includes almond, sunflower, mooring lavender, and frankincense that will leave your skin glowing and smooth! It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits and can reduce redness and blemishes! Plus Turmeric has so many health benefits can help reduce cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, and depression!
Vitamins and Probiotics
You may be eating chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and goldfish crackers on a daily basis, especially since grocery shopping is so few and far between right now, but you can take care of your body by taking vitamin supplements and probiotics that will last a lifetime! Taking daily supplements and or probiotics is essential for moms on the go to make sure they are getting all the health benefits they may be missing in their diet. They only take a minute to digest but have so many health benefits. Probiotics are best known to help guy health and also can help with weight loss, digestive health, immune function, lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, and more! Some studies have even shown that probiotics can help with certain allergies and eczema. There are even mental health benefits!
I have just started taking Mary Ruth Organic products and so far I am loving them. They have a line for adults and children. They have everything from liquid probiotic, multivitamins, Immunity Gummies, Elderberry liquid drops, apple cider vinegar gummies, and so much more!
Custom Jewelry
A little retail therapy is known to alleviate some symptoms of depression and anxiety, so without breaking the bank, I recommend buying yourself a small piece of customized jewelry that you can wear daily to remind yourself what a great mom you are!
I just received a beautiful set of handmade bracelets from Blueberry Blooms, where I a was able to pick out beaded bracelets that have mine and my children’s initial and birthstone color on them! And my daughter even has a matching set! You can put initials, full names, or just have them plain in pretty much any color you want! They are colorful and will bring joy to you each moment you look down and see them throughout your day!
Pillow Fight
No, really. Whether you scream into a pillow, hit a pillow like a punching bag, stomp on a pillow with all your weight, or throw a pillow at a wall, it will trigger your sensory system and relieve tension! It’s a therapeutic tool to help with anxiety and stress and doesn’t do any damage and it only takes a few minutes of pillow fighting before you feel better. And you’ll get a mini workout! Have your kids join in if you’d like, too!
Wake up early
Start your day off calmly by waking up before everyone else and take advantage of the peace and quiet. Invest in a good cup of tea, coffee, or juice and just be. Don’t do chores. Don’t make calls. Don’t pay bills. Put your phone away. Just soak in the sensory world around you. What do you see? Hear? Smell? Touch? You can do this inside, but preferably outside in your front or backyard. Get fresh air. Get some vitamin D. This time is just for you.
