My family and I recently stayed the weekend at the coastal and chic Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island and had the best beach getaway! The resort is nestled away between a plethora of trees and we loved the privacy and exlusivity. We had never been to South Carolina before and didn’t know what to expect going to the beach off of the Atlantic Ocean, especially in the middle of the hot summer, but boy, we were in for a treat! Not only were we treated with wonderful Southern hospitality, we loved all of the new renovations around the property and the direct access to the beautiful beach adjacent to the property!
The Resort
The pet-friendly resort had just underwent some major renovations and everything from the lobby to the rooms felt fresh, clean, and new! The lobby area alone was stunning with the high ceilings and sitting areas and even though the property was almost sold out that weekend, it never felt busy or crowded. Beyond the lobby outside are beautifully kept grounds with modern decor and plenty of places to sit and relax. They even have conference rooms to host events! I didn’t make it to their spa, but hopefully next time!
Resort Events
From outdoor movie nights with popcorn, to s’mores by the fire pit, live music in the lobby, and even daily turtle feedings, the resort has a lot to offer families on vacation! The resort even has a fitness center and a kids club! You’ll get a resort packet upon check-in and there will be events posted around the resort!
The Rooms
Our room was on the top level, the fifth floor, overlooking the pool and ocean. We had a spacious double queen room with a large balcony. Our room had recently been renovated and felt very new, clean, fresh, and modern. We were greeted with multiple welcoming gifts from the hotel that we were delighted to have – extra touches like these make the trip that much more special. My favorite part of the room was the Bedtime Journal card on the table between the beds. It had prompts on the card of reflections that I thought was so unique and special!
Sea Glass Provisions
This lobby shop is getting its own section because it has so much to offer! We visited daily for snacks, gelato, and iced coffee! They literally had something for everyone! We even bought some souvenirs including a cute magnet!
The Dining
We had an amazing dinner at the resort our first night. We were all impressed with the quality of the food during all of our meals. We dined at Seacrest but there is also The Patio open during certain hours with a more casual feel and menu. I loved by gluten-free mushroom risotto w/added shrimp and my husband loved his French Onion soup and shrimp and grits. The kids loved their cheeseburger and pasta meals as well!
Brunch
We also enjoyed two buffet breakfasts both mornings we stayed at the resort. There was a huge selection and we loved our fresh made omelets the most!
The Pools
The kids loved the lagoon style pool – especially the basketball hoop – and I loved spending time at the brand new adult only pool, which also house new cabanas!
The Beach
The beach is literally connected to the resort property and it’s a short walk from your room to the ocean! Unlike the Pacific Ocean that we are used to, these beaches are clean, the sand is white, and the ocean is warm! We had a great time at the beach building sand castles and collecting seashells! We just brought resort towels and made a spot on the flat beach sand but you also can rent chairs with umbrellas as well. We also caught the most amazing sunrise while we were there!
