This winter, my family and I went on a winter wellness weekend in Idyllwild, California. It is the best Southern California escape to the mountains to see snow that is approximately less than a two hour drive from San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles – and only about one hour from Temecula Wine Country!
We booked our trip through Petite Retreats, a vacation rental website where you can stay in a tiny house, cozy cabin, yurt, tent, or teepee.
Petite Retreats boasts locations across the country, which serve as the ultimate getaway. From a riverfront view at Yosemite to gorgeous colorful cottages in Florida, destination relaxation is just around the corner.
Petite Retreats also offers a Thousand Trails Cabin pass, a new annual pass that allows you to explore various sites across the country and have access to hundreds of unique vacation rentals with no overnight fees! That’s 125+ locations and starting at $1695/year! And this summer they celebrate the #100DaysofCamping from Memorial Day to Labor Day! Learn more here!
Our Cabin
The cabin we stayed in was cozy yet spacious for our family of four. We stayed in the Manzanita cabin and it was a great location, quiet and peaceful with lots of privacy! And this particular cabin was pet friendly, so we were also able to bring our dog! The parent’s bedroom was downstairs and the kids had their own loft area upstairs – which they loved! Linens, towels, and kitchen supplies were all in the cabin, there wasn’t anything we were missing, which was so helpful and convenient!
The Thousand Trails Campsite
We stayed at the Thousand Trails campsite and it was amazing! They had lots on on site activities, walking trails, playgrounds, etc -except most of them were closed because of the snow. We did explore a little and found a fun game room to play in about a minute from our cabin location.
Wellness Highlights
We completely unplugged for the weekend. No iPads, no video games, no television, and no phones except for the short times I was gathering content! We slowed down and mostly played outside, built snowmen, and played board and card games together! It was definitely a restful weekend to relax and reconnect with each other!
And the location was perfect because it was peaceful and beautiful, day and night! If you haven’t taken a weekend retreat like this, as a mental health therapist, I highly recommend it!
The Town
There is so much to do in Idyllwild! It’s a great town to visit during all months out of the year, we just don’t get a lot of snow where we live, so we wanted to go in the winter so the kids could experience the snow this season! We went on a fun hike, built a snowman, and went into town for lunch, candy, souvenirs, coffee, and ice cream! The town even had live music to sit and listen to on this particular weekend. They also have a vintage movie theater! We were going to have dinner out, but decided to make dinner the first night and grab pizza and bring it back to the cabin on the second night!
A big thank you to Petite Retreats for this hosted stay and the warming welcome gift! We can’t wait to travel with you again!
