Last weekend Disney sent me and my family an advanced screening of Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe and a few days ago I had the opportunity to attend a virtual meet & greet and Q&A with the Creators and Executive Producers of the film, Dan Povenmire (also the voice of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz) and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (also the voice of Major Monogram) as well as Vincent Martella, the voice of Phineas! I have to admit it was pretty special seeing my name embedded on the movie while we were watching it!
Having a Master’s in Broadcast Journalism and having worked many years in the entertainment industry covering numerous media events, press junkets, movie premieres, and red carpet celebrity interviews, I love that my blog allows me to continue my passion for entertainment as well as my media experience to my online community!
The first episode of the Emmy Award winning series Phineas and Ferb first premiered on The Disney Channel on August 17, 2007 and ran for many seasons before ending on June 12, 2015. There were 222 episodes in all, with each 11 minute episode needing 10 months to make! I watched the series when it originally aired with my younger brother and became a big fan of the series! This animated musical comedy followed the adventures of stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb as well as their older sister Candace. Typically the boys would get into some crazy adventures and it was Candace’s mission to catch them in action and tell on them to their mom, but somehow the mess was always cleaned up before mom could see it, frustrating and annoying big sister.
Well now, five years later, after 2 1/2 years to make, it’s Candace’s turn to take the spotlight in Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe, the full length animated feature film from Disney Television Animation that starts streaming today on Disney+! This “out-of-this-world” adventure includes all of your favorite characters from the original series including Perry the Platypus and the entire Danville gang!
The movie centers on Phineas and Ferb as they set out across the galaxy to rescue Candace, who after being abducted by aliens, who finds utopia in a far-off planet, free of pesky little brothers, until she realizes how much she loves her brothers even if they are annoying and frustrating sometimes! As Jeff “Swampy” Marsh says, “Never underestimate the intelligence of the kids.”
The movie stars Ashley Tisdale as Candace, Vincent Martella as Phineas, David Errigo Jr. as Ferb, Caroline Rhea as Mom, and Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus!
One aspect of the film that I love is the music! The movie immediately begins with a catchy opening number called “Such a Beautiful Day” and songs continue throughout the film including one about “adulting” that I loved by Danny Jacob the Emmy Award winning Composer and Song Producer!
But really it is the core message of the film that made me love it so much. The movie is ultimately about the relationship between siblings and the bonds that hold them together. Even when our siblings drive us crazy, at the end of the day, we still love them and would do what we could to support them and keep them safe. As an older sister myself, this message hit close to home. And as a mom of an older daughter and younger son, it hit even closer to home based on their sibling bond that is already so strong despite their typical annoyances and frustrations with each other. As Jeff “Swampy” Marsh says, “appreciate what you have and the people around you.”
The movie is so creative, the animation is colorful, and humor is on point, and it’s action packed! The movie is rated “G” and runs for 1 hour 25 minutes and is great for all ages. It’s a multi-generational entertainment for the entire family! It kept my 3 year old’s attention as well as my 6 year old’s attention and there was a lot of humor for the adults, too! It’s a fun movie and I highly recommend it! And you don’t have to had watched the original series to enjoy the movie, although, if you are a longtime fan, there are definitely some “Easter Eggs” and a lot of familiar and recognizable moments from the show that are in the movie!
