For anyone who knows me well, knows that I love to travel. And I have to admit that I thrive when I am traveling. Maybe it’s all the fresh air and time away from stressful daily responsibilities or maybe it’s all the quality family time and fun we have exploring the world. Either way, traveling is a form of self care and is very therapeutic for me. So when my family and I had the opportunity to stay the weekend at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa, we couldn’t have been more excited.
This stunning and luxurious resort is nestled quietly within in a beautiful suburban neighborhood of North County, San Diego and just minutes from the Pacific Ocean. And it recently underwent a $50 million dollar renovation that couldn’t be more dynamic and dramatic. The resort is also within minutes to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets, The Flower Fields, and LEGOLAND! And it’s not a far drive from The San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Sea World, Old Town, Petco Park, Seaport Village, and Disneyland!
I actually grew up minutes from the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa and would consider the resort part of my hometown. When I was younger, before becoming a mom, I used to come to the resort for the day to swim at the pool and relax. I would book a spa treatment and have access to some of the grounds and amenities like having a delicious poolside lunch while I was getting in some much needed relaxation and Vitamin D! But since I lived so close, it never occurred for me at the time to actually stay there. But as soon as I became a mom, going on a local staycation is my favorite way to staycation. And once I saw all of their renovations, and how beautiful it was, I knew I wanted to experience it for myself!
And now with it’s multifaceted renovation, there isn’t a better time to come visit the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa. This breathtaking property sits on 200 lush acres of natural beauty overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon and is a AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Five-Star luxury resort. It also ranked with the Top 10% of all luxury hotels in the United States and named the #6 resort in California by 2021 U.S. News & World Report.
We stayed in a corner 1,140-square-foot one bedroom Premium Coastal Suite, that came a king bed, a separate living room with queen sofa sleeper, a full master bathroom with dual vanity sinks, a walk in closet, two balconies, and a separate smaller bathroom on the living room side of the suite. This suite is the perfect amount of space for a family and I love that after the kids go to bed in the bedroom, my husband and I can stay up in the living room and have a date night!
And for an extra charge, you can order a teepee for your room, which the kids loved to play in during the day and sleep in at night! You just have to ask the concierge if you want one!
And we were so grateful for our wonderful and thoughtful welcoming gift!
One of my favorite parts of the room was the corner balcony, the best spot for some relaxation and morning coffee with the perfect view! I loved the plush robe, too!
And the views were out of this world, especially at night!
But what we were really excited for was to experience their new family pool area with two waterslides, sand area, splash pad, and pool with a shallow beach entry area that is perfect for little ones! This area just opened in November 2020 and couldn’t have been a better enhancement to the resort. The pool is open 24 hours (not the waterslides since there is no lifeguard on duty) and is heated! It was a big highlight of the trip!
But if you really want a peaceful place to relax by the pool, I suggest going to the adult pool, that is for guests 18+, for a while!
As soon as you walk inside the lobby you are taken aback from the beauty of the chandelier and view.
The lobby area also is home to a gift shop and the Aviara Market, a store and cafe! This was the perfect place to get a snack, some sunscreen, or an afternoon coffee.
One morning we ate at their newly opened breakfast restaurant called Ponto Lago. I ordered the Pinto Omelet with House Chistorra Sausage, Kale, Mushrooms, Red Bell Peppers, and Oaxaca Cheese and it was very delicious. They serve breakfast daily from 7:00am-11:00am.
And one evening, we ate during the grand opening weekend of the new signature steakhouse Ember & Rye, which is the newest and final piece of the resort’s $50 million renovation. This incredible new restaurant was created in collaboration with Richard Blais and serves vintage steaks and fresh seafood. The restaurant overlooks the 18th hole of The Aviara Golf Cub, so if you have a chance to sit outside, I highly recommend it. Blais created satellite food stations all around the restaurant and the one pictured below is called the Chef’s Backyard Grill. Of course my husband and I had to both order steaks and the kids picked out the child’s menu burger and they all were amazing!
After dinner, we loved coming back to Pacific Point, which is the lobby bar and terrace area where you can watch the sunset and listen to live music! There is live music on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 5:00pm-8:00pm and it’s so fun and relaxing! I love how it’s all outside and there are plenty of first come, first serve table areas to grab a bite to eat, a drink, or even just dessert!
And let me tell you about the award winning renovated spa that consists of a 15,000-square-foot oasis offering 20 intimate treatment rooms, including a couple’s suite with fireplace, semi-private pool, and Swiss shower, an indoor solarium lounge, aromatic steam rooms, saunas, and whirlpools complement a full menu of massages, facials, and treatments, along with monthly specials.
The spa area is also home to the resort’s indoor gym.
The resort fee includes morning yoga on the grass as well as many other perks!
And we were so happy to see so many health and safety precautions in place as well as reminders all over the property.
The trip went by way too quickly and to be completely honest, we didn’t want to leave. We stayed until the last possible moment we could before checking out and the kids have been asking me pretty regularly when we can go back.
The Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa is the perfect San Diego getaway for a luxurious and fun family vacation. I cannot recommend it enough and can’t wait to take my family back one day soon!
