“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple” – Scott Adams
Whether you live in San Diego or are traveling here over the summer, plan to make a stop at Del Mar Highlands Town Center! With over 70 shops, restaurants, grocery, banks, and more, there is also a movie theater! There is something for everyone whether you are visiting with your family, having a playdate, out with friends, or on a date night!
Growing up in North County, San Diego, I have been visiting this iconic center for many years. I grew up shopping at Jimbo’s, attending birthday parties at the infamous McDonalds with an extremely unique decor inside, buying croissants at Champagne French Bakery Cafe, and seeing more movies than I can count at the movie theater!
I have so many memories there and have seen the center change and grow so much over the years! They now have a huge multi-story parking garage and a small fountain style splash pad for kids to play in!
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the center to experience it first hand as a family by day and second as a couple at night! In the morning, I took the kids to Cerami Cafe to paint pottery!
We each picked out something special to paint. My daughter picked a mermaid shaped bank. My son picked out a train shaped bank. And I picked out a new giant mug for my morning tea!
I loved that everything is fairly priced and self serve, but if you need any assistance, someone is right there to help you! We all loved that they played Disney movie songs the whole time we were in there so we had the chance to sing along while we painted!
There were so many different ceramic pieces to choose from and just as many different colored paints!
We can’t wait to go back in 5 days to see what our different pieces look like once they have been glazed! And maybe one day we will even have a birthday party there!
When we were done painting, we walked over to Swirls for some self serve frozen yogurt!
Swirls offers 52 rotating flavors, with 12 flavors available each day and many flavors created daily including Cake Batter, Red Velvet, Tart Pomegranate, Dolce De Leche, Plain Tart, Cookies & Cream, Dreamy Peanut Butter, as well as non-dairy and no sugar added flavors.
They also have a variety of fresh fruits including mango, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries and much more prepared daily!
My daughter insisted on having the giant cup but we made sure to only fill it up to an appropriate level. She had so much fun sampling different flavors and picking out her own toppings! She literally ate every last drop!
My son was just as excited but only had a few spoonfuls of plain vanilla yogurt!
I chose the red velvet flavor with chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles.
We all had a delicious and refreshing treat on a hot summer day!
Once the kids were in bed, my husband and I went back for dinner and a movie! Our first stop was Searsucker for a phenomenal culinary experience.
When my husband and I first walked in, they took us to the best table in the house and the server greeted us each with a glass of champagne.
The chef sent his welcoming compliments soon after with a beautiful ahi appetizer before we even had a chance to look at the menu.
We first ordered two shared appetizer plates: the bone marrow maple habanero glaze, brussels, red onions, grilled bread and the shrimp & cheddar grits basil, kale, lemon. Neither of us had bone marrow before but it was so delicate and delicious!
The bone marrow melted in our mouths and had a much better texture than I thought it would. And since the restaurant is famous for their shrimp and grits we knew they wouldn’t disappoint! The shrimp were huge and the grits were so creamy we almost ordered it for our main course!
Instead we ordered the flank steak glazed cipollini, chile toreado puree, bacon, peewee potatoes and the beer braised short ribs mashed potatoes, crispy onions, horseradish demi and with two sides; corn charred sweet corn, chipotle aioli, cotija cheese and brussels & walnuts. And for dessert the chef made us a special raspberry ice cream concoction that wasn’t on the menu! And it was delicious!
I love that there is a beautiful inside and a equally gorgeous outside patio.
There are private rooms and we were even told that they are making some menu changes and creating a more family friendly experience soon with family movie nights and more!
After the movie, we saw a movie at the Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas! We hadn’t seen a movie together for a long time that wasn’t an amimated one with our children, so we decided to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
I love that our seats were reserved for us by the time we arrived. Once we were inside the theater we sat down on the extremely comfortable leather seats that reclined with a foot rest!
As soon as we were comfortable, we pressed our seat button and called over one of the servers to order a drink and some popcorn.
I loved that there was even a small glass table next to my seat to put my phone in case the babysitter needed to reach me!
We had a wonderful time experiencing what the Del Mar Highlands Town Center had to offer and can’t wait to go back again soon. There is a FREE EVENT called Hullabaloo that’s perfect for caregivers and young children on Wednesday, August 22nd and Wednesday, October 24th at 10am! I took my kids to the performance on June 27th and we all had so much fun! They both danced their little hearts out and afterwards we grabbed some lunch and ice cream!
