Let’s Talk About: ProLon®, A 5-Day Low Calorie, Plant-Based Meal Program

Since all of my health issues have come to surface, I have been trying to drastically change my lifestyle and diet. As a busy working mom I have also been trying to focus on overall health and wellness in my busy stressful life. So when I found out about ProLon®, a 5-day low calorie, plant-based meal program that provides the same benefits of a water-only fast, but with food, I had to try it. It is the first and only meal plan that has been shown to mimic fasting, and it really works!

 

 

There is even some evidence that this process surpasses water only fasts and intermittent fasting for overall improved health and wellness. The ProLon program consists of plant-based soups, bars, drinks, snacks, teas, and supplement formula tablets and provides 1150 calories on Day 1 and about 800 calories on Days 2-5. On Day 6 they recommend you do a transition diet of liquids and small light meals before resuming your regular diet on Day 7. Since you are eating food, you are still receiving adequate nourishment and nutrients as well as minimizing hunger and the burdens of fasting. As a busy working mom, this program seemed manageable to try while still being on the go! ProLon makes it so easy.

 

 

I love that it is delivered straight to my door and I don’t have to research what to eat or even have to go buy a bunch of things from a list, they do it all for me. When I was doing the program, it actually helped me get out the door earlier in the morning because it took the guess work out of what I had to pack for food for the day. I just packed my daily consumption box in my work bag for the day and off I went! I also didn’t have to do much prep or cooking while I was doing the program. I just had to make sure I had access to water and a microwave for some of the items like the tea and soup, except the soup I made for dinner, which I heated in a saucepan on the stove. The rest of the items could just be eaten anywhere on the go in my office, in the car, or everywhere else I went for the day!

And since I am gluten free, I was happy to see that all of the ingredients had no gluten – even the crackers! And I know you are wondering how the food actually tasted – especially since the soup is a powder you mix with water and the bars are nut-based and the crackers are made of kale. Well, you will be surprised! Remember you are on a fast of sorts and there is some element of sacrifice when you are cleansing your body. But in all honesty, the food tasted really good! I’m not kidding! The tomato soup was savory, thick, and creamy, the olives gave me my salty fix, the hibiscus tea was delightful, and the bars were even a little sweet! I thoroughly enjoyed all of the food and didn’t feel like I was sacrificing at all. And I never really felt hungry or craved any other food. The only time I felt somewhat hungry was around 3:30pm on Day 1 but it I think it was more mental than physical and went away once I made my soup for dinner. I didn’t go to bed hungry or wake up hungry the next day. And I maintained a good amount of energy, and if not, had more energy throughout the day while I was doing the program! It’s only for five days and goes by quickly.

🇺🇸 What a monumental day in history we had t 🇺🇸 What a monumental day in history we had today! 🇺🇸

As soon as we woke up I started educating my children, specifically my daughter, on what the inauguration meant and why today was such a special day in history. We both were glued to the television as we watched @kamalaharris be sworn in as the first Black South Asian woman Vice President and @joebiden be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. We also were powerfully moved hearing @amandascgorman - the youngest inaugural poet in history recite “The Hill We Climb.” 

My daughter was so excited to participate and recite the Pledge of Allegiance with the rest of the county and she was so proud to see and be a part of history in the making. I haven’t been to Washington D.C. in about 8 years but I promised I would take her one day when the pandemic is over. 

In the meantime, I have a fun fact for you! Did you know that President Joe Biden and I both graduated from the same university? Yep! We both went to @syracuseu 🍊 And in fact, @joebiden is the first @syracuseu alumnus to become President of the United States!

And since I work from home, it can get quite noisy and distracting with my husband and two children here, so sometimes I get my best work done in the comfort of my own bed. Throwing it back to one of the first mommy and me photos I ever posted on my feed because I’ve been teaching my daughter about gratitude since she was this little, possibly even younger (she is two here for reference)! 

Gratitude is such an important virtue and must have trait to build a child’s character. It also shows therapeutic benefits when you show gratitude to others, so why wouldn’t you want to make it a priority to teach and instill in your children? 

In this blog, I have suggestions for how to teach children gratitude broken down by ages and stages from infancy to teenage years, while also including some conversation prompts, and links to my favorite gratitude journals for busy families that we use here at home!

I am that mom who wants to do it all and when I get overwhelmed or start suffering from a major case of burnout, I feel guilty if I take a break instead of giving my body and mind permission to slow down or even stop. 

As moms we often feel guilty if we take a break or believe we are perceived as weak if we ask for help. I have learned that the more I ask for help and the more time I take for myself, the better I am for my children. 

Guilt is an emotional response to something you perceived you did wrong, but when you experience unnecessary guilt, it’s counterproductive to healing and helping you with what you need most.
