Let’s Talk About: My Baby Sprinkle and My Baby Registry Gift Guide

Before I became pregnant with this baby boy I always dreamed of having a Paddington Bear themed baby sprinkle. My daughter’s baby shower was a Peter Rabbit theme and I thought staying with a classic book theme was appropriate considering how much I adore children’s books and both of these characters.

Once I became pregnant, two of my closest friends offered to throw me a baby sprinkle. We wanted it to be a sprinkle since I already had a baby shower with my first and only needed specific items that didn’t last the second time around and or clothing and bathing items for a boy instead of a girl. A sprinkle is intended to be a smaller version of a shower, but essentially they are basically the same thing.

The sprinkle had been in the works for months. My two friends planned every single detail of the sprinkle thoughtfully yet they still would ask me for advice and final approval on everything. It was nice to feel included in the decision making process yet not have to actually plan or purchase anything.

I decided to invite about 15 of my closest friends that I had have for 10+ years and or my closest friends that I see on a regular basis locally that has been part of this pregnancy journey with me. It is always difficult because I am the type of person that wants to include and invite everyone, but I kept it limited this time to close friends, neighbors, and mamas I spend time with often. I am very blessed to have had friends come from out-of-state and from 2+ hours away to spend the day with me and baby boy.

Guests began arriving around 11am and after spending some time catching up with everyone we ate lunch, played games, and opened gifts. We lunched on caprese skewers, peanut butter and marmalade sandwiches (made with a teddy bear cut out) and cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches (made with a heart cut out) as well as chocolate covered gummy bears, mini sprinkle donuts, blue macaroons and custom sugar cookies from Sweet Little Baker.

We had a drink station with lemonade, water bottles with custom labels, and “Preggatini” mocktails that my husband crafted. We also had a station where guests could write prayers for the baby on mini custom cards for his scrapbook, and party favors for each guest with custom Paddington Bear suitcase bags filled with Teddy Grahams, gummy bears, a mini jar of marmalade, and a prayer bear.

We played “The Price is Right” where guests had to look at certain baby items and guess how much each item costs, the “Celebrity Baby Game” where guests had to match the baby’s name to his or her parents, and “What’s in Your Purse” game where guests received points for having certain items in their purse or diaper bag. Winners chose between a bottle of wine, a candle, and a coffee gift card for prizes.

After the games we opened gifts and took a ton of photos. It was a lovely day and everything was how I imagined. Honestly, everything I had dreamed of in my head was perfectly executed and I couldn’t feel more loved and happy. And not only was I able to share it with my best friends, but also with my husband and my baby girl. I loved the fact that some of my friends even brought a present for my daughter as well as the baby.

Speaking of gifts, I created a baby registry gift guide of the most important items I registered for and or a list of recommended items I suggest for a new mom. I learned through two pregnancies that there are definitely items that I need and items that I want. There were so many items I registered for the first time around that I never really used and wanted to be more intentional this time.

There are a few items I didn’t need this time around that I highly recommend for new moms. These items include:

–A High Chair (We own the Graco Blossom 4 in 1 High Chair Seating System)

–A Carseat (We own the Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat)

–A Stroller (We own the Chicco KeyFit 30 Cortina Travel System)

–A Bottle/Pacifier Sterilizer (We own the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Electric Steam Sterilizer)

-Bottles (We own Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles)

-Pacifiers (We exclusively use Nuk brand pacifiers)

–Crib – (We own the Stork Craft Portofino 4-in-1 Convertible Crib that includes a changing table)

–Baby Food Maker (We use the Baby Bullet)

–Crib Mattress (We own a Naturepedic Dual Firmness Organic Cotton Seamless Mattress – one side is firmer for baby and one side is for a toddler)

-Baby Monitor – (We own a Motorola video monitor)

–Cool Mist Humidifier (We own the Crane elephant)

-Baby carrier (We own an Ergobaby 360 carrier)

-Diaper Bag (We own a Skip Hop diaper bag)

–Rock n Play Sleeper (We own the Fisher Price version)

-Diaper Pail (We owned the Munchkin Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail)

-Blackout Curtains (We own ones from Pottery Barn Kids)

-Bibs (We own a variety of brands and styles)

–Swaddles – (We love Aden and Anais and Spearmint LOVE Baby)

–Nursing Cover (We own a variety of brands and styles)

The items I registered for this time around mostly included décor for baby’s room (we are doing a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star theme) as well as little boy blankets, clothes, sheets, and bath towels. I also registered for:

-Fisher Price Deluxe Bouncer

-Skip Hop MOBY Bathtub with Sling

-HALO Bassinet Swivel Sleeper

-Munchkin STEP Diaper Pail

-Fisher Price Deluxe Rock n Play Sleeper

-Crane Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

-VTECH Safe and Sound Owl Digital Video Baby Monitor with Pan and Tilt

-Baby Trend Sit n Stand Ultra Stroller (for both of my babies)

-Fawn Design Diaper Bag

-Solly Baby Wrap

-Baby Jives Mobile

-Binxy Baby Cart Hammock

-Covered Goods Multi Use Nursing Cover

-Owlet Baby Monitor

-Ollie World Swaddle

-Freshly Picked Bringing Home Baby Bundle

-Dock-A-Tot Deluxe Dock

We were very spoiled to receive the gracious gifts from our friends who came to sprinkle baby boy but since we did not get everything on our registry wish list mommy still has some shopping to do!!

🇺🇸 What a monumental day in history we had t 🇺🇸 What a monumental day in history we had today! 🇺🇸

As soon as we woke up I started educating my children, specifically my daughter, on what the inauguration meant and why today was such a special day in history. We both were glued to the television as we watched @kamalaharris be sworn in as the first Black South Asian woman Vice President and @joebiden be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. We also were powerfully moved hearing @amandascgorman - the youngest inaugural poet in history recite “The Hill We Climb.”

My daughter was so excited to participate and recite the Pledge of Allegiance with the rest of the county and she was so proud to see and be a part of history in the making. I haven’t been to Washington D.C. in about 8 years but I promised I would take her one day when the pandemic is over.

In the meantime, I have a fun fact for you! Did you know that President Joe Biden and I both graduated from the same university? Yep! We both went to @syracuseu 🍊 And in fact, @joebiden is the first @syracuseu alumnus to become President of the United States!

And since I work from home, it can get quite noisy and distracting with my husband and two children here, so sometimes I get my best work done in the comfort of my own bed. And the best part is that I can have my new @crane_usa “4 in 1” cool mist humidifier on at all times with essential oils to help with overall wellness and since it comes with a sound machine I can block out the other noises in the house!

And at night, it helps my sinuses as I sleep, especially when the dry air of the heater is on, and it has a nightlight so my kids can see where they are going in the middle of the night when they inevitably need water or a hug!

This is our 6th #cranehumidifier style and it’s my favorite one yet! Check out my stories for a closer look! 👀 #happyhealthyhumidity

{New Blog Post} “How to Teach Children Gratitude {New Blog Post} “How to Teach Children Gratitude” 🌱✨🌸

Throwing it back to one of the first mommy and me photos I ever posted on my feed because I’ve been teaching my daughter about gratitude since she was this little, possibly even younger (she is two here for reference)!

Gratitude is such an important virtue and must have trait to build a child’s character. It also shows therapeutic benefits when you show gratitude to others, so why wouldn’t you want to make it a priority to teach and instill in your children?

In this blog, I have suggestions for how to teach children gratitude broken down by ages and stages from infancy to teenage years, while also including some conversation prompts, and links to my favorite gratitude journals for busy families that we use here at home!

Find the direct link to read in my bio and stories! I also published similar articles on @todayparents and @redtricycle if you follow me there! #drkimblog
DOUBLE TAP if you agree!! 🙋🏼‍♀️ I am DOUBLE TAP if you agree!! 🙋🏼‍♀️

I am that mom who wants to do it all and when I get overwhelmed or start suffering from a major case of burnout, I feel guilty if I take a break instead of giving my body and mind permission to slow down or even stop.

As moms we often feel guilty if we take a break or believe we are perceived as weak if we ask for help. I have learned that the more I ask for help and the more time I take for myself, the better I am for my children.

Guilt is an emotional response to something you perceived you did wrong, but when you experience unnecessary guilt, it’s counterproductive to healing and helping you with what you need most. So give it a try and let me know how you are going to take a break and not feel guilty about it this week below in the comments! ⤵️ #drkimparentingtips #theparentologist #drkimparentingadvice

For the last 3 years I have spent my career therapeutically helping families and children of all ages on the Autism Spectrum. Play has been a fundamental way for many of my clients to communicate if they are non-verbal. And some of my clients have had to be taught how to play with a toy or another person. The play ideas listed on the blog can be used with children with or without special needs. Play is a universal way a child can explore their world in a way that makes sense to them and cultivate imagination, creativity, and fun! As a Registered Play Therapist, I love the work I do and couldn’t be prouder of the progress my clients have made with play over the years! #drkimblog

As a Registered Play Therapist, play is the foundation to the way I help children conceptualize and conquer the world. Play is second nature to children and the way they respond to many of life’s obstacles. Sometimes as parents, it is easy to get into a power match with your children, especially when you want your children to comply with a request and they won’t budge. When this happens, we need to change the way our adult mind thinks and switch it to the way a child thinks. Instead of giving them a punitive consequence, try these play recommendations that can be used with children as young as toddlerhood all the way to adolescents! #drkimblog
