There is so much going on at LEGOLAND right now! The iconic theme park just turned 20 and there are so many ways to celebrate! Growing up only miles from LEGOLAND® I remember when it was first built. And since opening its doors in 1999 with 12 rides and Miniland U.S.A., North America’s first LEGOLAND® theme park has grown into a multi-day destination with more than 60 rides, shows and attractions, a 10-acre water park, a two-story aquarium, and two interactive LEGO® themed hotels. And it just keeps growing and getting better!!
To celebrate it’s birthday, when you first get to the park, you’ll see the 10 foot birthday cake at the front entrance that was created with more than 100,000 bricks!
And just last week the new LEGO® City 4D – Officer in Pursuit film debuted and is a must see!
But let’s first talk about how you can go to LEGOLAND this year for FREE! If your child goes to LEGOLAND on their birthday this year they will get in for FREE! Yes, free admission for children ages 2-12 on their birthday!!!!
But whether or not you’re there on your birthday, you can celebrate LEGOLAND’s birthday daily by watching the 20th Birthday Dance Party show! This limited edition celebration can only be seen until September 1 – so get your party on!
There are typically 3x showings a day and are about 20 minutes long. Parents and children will enjoy the familiar songs and be able to sing and dance along with their favorite characters!
We watched the midday show and was able to order a burger and fries next door to the theater at the Burger Stop and eat lunch inside while watching the show!!
Now let’s talk about how you can participate in birthday activities with your favorite LEGO characters! One way is by special character meets greets! After the birthday show, you’ll get a special meet n greet photo opportunity with the new characters, Jake and Emily, which were the two most popular girl and boy names of 1999 when the park opened.
One very special opportunity we were able to do on the park’s birthday was create our own Miniland figure that will be on display in New York forever!!
We were also among one of the first 1000 people to get some special birthday swag to take home with us! Our treats included a limited edition birthday pop badge, child-size minifigure hands, a Batman pencil pack, and a LEGO Movie 2 poster!!
And speaking of the LEGO 2 Movie, you can go see the LEGO Movie 2 Experience at LEGOLAND now – which you can read more about here!
And when you are done, you can go see the new film, LEGO® City 4D – Officer in Pursuit!!
I was able to see it the night before it opened to the public at a very special VIP red carpet premiere!!
The film is so much fun, too! It creatively combines 3D computer animation with 4D real-world effects like wind, bubbles, and water! Just be prepared to get a little wet!
And don’t forget that the Aquarium and the Waterpark are both open now, too!! More to come on those soon!
