Want to get something beneficial for your children for Christmas this holiday season? Chances are, your children are (or have been) enrolled in multiple lessons for sports, music, dance, or art. As a parent, you have invested hundreds of dollars into these types of classes for our children, but have you ever considered a fun, academic based class for you children that you know would benefit them long term in the world of math, science, technology, animation, and more?
I’m talking about investing in coding classes. Did you know there is a new company called Koderon, that offers premium 1-on-1 coding classes for children from 7-18 years old. And the best part is that these classes are all online, so our children can take them in the comfort of your own home. Weekly lessons are scheduled around student’s availability, whether you are homeschooling, virtual learning, or in school full time.
“Our mission is to cultivate kids’ love for coding” – Koderon
Each Koderon class is customized to your child’s age, developmental level, learning style, pace, and creativity. This format allows imagination to sour without a preset curriculum. Instead, it allows for experimentation, trial and error, and exploration that is individualized week after week, based on the previous lesson. When a child is set up for success and have fun with what they are learning, they will want to practice it and excel in it short and long term.
I love that coding incorporates technology, STEAM learning, and play based learning. Benefits of coding include problem solving skills, thinking creatively outside the box, fostering communication skills and language development, writing skills, logic, math skills, calculation skills, understanding step-by-step instructions, learning valuable critical thinking skills that will help with adverse life situations, and preparing them with valuable skills they can apply to future careers. To me, coding is like learning a second language and will open up many doors for your children when it comes to job skills.
Children can immerse themselves into a world that they can create and control, empowering them mentally, emotionally, socially, and academically. Learning how to comprehend computer skills is like being in a special club and the earlier they learn it the better, while their brains are actively still growing and developing. Coding helps children visualize abstract concepts and apply math to real-world situations, help organize and understand the world they live in better, cause and affect,
Classes are also tailored based on age:
Code.org: For very young kids ages 7-9, very easy to follow and kids can advance through levels by solving problems
Scratch: For kids 8-14, allows for boundless creativity, easier to create games than in Python. Block coding doesn’t require memorizing syntaxes or typing skills.
Python: For kids 12+, a powerful yet easy-to-learn programming language. This is also the most popular language for Artificial Intelligence applications today and its usage is growing every year.
Koderon was co-founded earlier this year by a husband and wife team, Ivan and Megan Lai. Ivan is the CEO and Megan is the Executive Director. I was able to virtually meet both of them, but have spent more time with Megan, since she is the one teaching my daughter how to code during her weekly classes. Megan was Valedictorian of her high school, and is a magna cum laude graduate of Yale University, with an MBA from UCLA (yay, my alma mater) where she graduated at the top of her class. She is a mom of two and was one of the youngest executives at Southern California Edison, a Fortune 500 company.
Koderon has top of the line teachers that teach the coding classes. Their teachers are current and or recent graduated from top schools like Cornell, Stanford, Caltech, and Berkeley. And I love that during their classes, the teachers have the students share their screen to get more hands-on learning and being a more active participant rather than a passive participant just watching a screen and only depending on auditory and visual learning methods. Koderon classes incorporate all three learning styles for a more beneficial experience. Multi-sensory learning helps children work through problems more effectively and keeps children engaged in the learning process.
I love that the classes are child led and child focused!
Classes are typically once a week for 50 minutes each and cost roughly $250 a month or $62.50 per class. And if your child is homeschooled or attends a charter school program and you have a stipend for classes, you can use it towards Koderon coding classes!
I can’t say enough positive things about Koderon and how much my daughter is loving her classes so far. She was absolutely enthralled with her first class and can’t wait until her next one. And as a parent, I feel like Koderon coding classes are such a great investment for children in this age group.
They offer ONE FREE TRIAL lesson for everyone, where they spend the first 10 minutes explaining the program and getting to know the child, then do a 50 minute lesson right after. I highly encourage you to sign up for a free trial lesson now using this link!
