As you saw, a few weeks ago Disney invited my daughter and me to attend the red carpet world premiere of Frozen 2 in Hollywood. We had been looking forward to the invitation all year long and we were so grateful to receive it and have the opportunity to attend. It was a dream come true for both of us.
You see, the first Frozen movie was released one month before my daughter was born 6 years ago. At that time, being a new mom, we didn’t see the movie right away. It wasn’t until my daughter was a toddler before we saw for the first time. But once we did, it has played a major role in her life as well as mine ever since!
That year, she was Elsa for Halloween and pretty much wore her blue Elsa dress everywhere she went whether it was the post office, the grocery store, or even to dance class. She literally wore it everywhere! And pretty much everything else she owned was part of the frozen franchise and we own so much I feel like we should own stock in Disney! This is why going to the premiere was such an important and special experience for us to experience together.
As soon as we received the invitation, we couldn’t stop talking about it! We had to make sure that we wore our best Elsa dresses! My dress, just happened to be a dress I wore for a sorority formal event I had my senior year of college and wore again for a company holiday party about 10 years ago. I was surprised it still fit, barely, but it was a spitting image Disney bound like Elsa dress with the flowing scarf and everything that I couldn’t not wear it to the premiere! For my daughter, we went to the Disney Store and bought her the new Frozen 2 Elsa costume dress to wear including the matching boots!
We spent over an hour on the red carpet watching all of the celebrities and even received a few pictures and autographs along the way! Then, we grabbed our official Frozen 2 premiere popcorn bucket and sat down to watch the full movie. I love going to premieres because of all the energy in the room. Everyone likes to sing along and clap after most scenes. It just brings so much life to the movie it makes it fun to watch with other big Disney fans!
Now for my review and thoughts about the movie. I feel it is difficult for sequels to be as good as the original because it is always been compared and is typically often more criticized than an original feature. What I love about this sequel is that when you watch it, you already know the main characters so well you feel at home when you see them again as if time went by and you were long-lost friends that reunited together and you know all of the intimate details about each other and you just pick up where you left off. Elsa and Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, Sven, and the rest of the Frozen crew are so endearing and near and dear to our hearts that seeing them on the big screen again just solidified how much we truly love them. And the sisterly bond and friendship between all of them is so deep and rooted in this movie much more than the first one.
This movie, from my perspective, is much different than the first one. The characters are much more mature, confident, and have grown into their character much more. This movie has a ton of humor in it and I laughed much more than I ever did during the first one. There’s even a funny music parody video that you will have to see that was one of the most humorous parts of the movie! There was a lot of adult humor and inside jokes and references from the first movie that most of the adults were laughing at that some of the kids didn’t pick up on. But it makes it more worthwhile when us parents take our kids to the movies. There’s something in it for everyone!
The first film was set in a much more icy and snowy like environment, but this film was set more in a forest filled with trees and leaves and of course a lot of water and underwater scenes. The new characters of the movie fit right in and it is just as exciting as the first one. It is so different from the first movie in my perspective it was hard to compare! They are both so unique in their own way. Plus there a few new songs, including Anna’s new song “The Next Right Thing” and Elsa’s song “Into the Unknown.”
But I have to say, I absolutely love to the end! When you’re watching the movie they are some parts that may make sense until the end but once the end rolls around, you have an Aha! moment where it all comes together! The last few minutes of the movie are so incredible my heart was racing and I was at the edge of my seat with a huge smile on my face and even some tears in my eyes from happiness!! And make sure you stay until after the end of the credits for a special little surprise moment with Olaf!
Frozen 2 is rated PG and runs 1 hour 44 minutes. I recommend it for all ages and can’t wait to take my toddler son to see it! The film officially opens today in theaters and you can grab your tickets in advance here!
Thank you Disney for making dreams come true and keeping the magic alive! We truly appreciate the invitation and are so grateful for the opportunity to attend the premier and be part of the Disney family.
