This past spring, my family and I took a boat tour of the Na Pali coast with Capt Andy’s Sailing Adventures and it was a very memorable experience to say the least! I would highly recommend this company and taking this excursion as a must have experience on the island!
The captain and crew were extremely kind and helpful and the stunning views were out of this world. This blog will give my honest review of our trip, all the details of what we did on the tour, and information on how to book your own when you travel to Kauai!
The Luxury 65′ Star Class Yacht Sunset Dinner Tour
We picked the sunset dinner cruise, but there is also a snorkeling cruise available. We liked that the sunset cruise was family friendly, and perfect for children, just as much as it was for adults. However, I would say our particular cruise had almost all adults on it. It was a large catamaran with plenty of places to sit or stand. There is an air conditioned interior lounge and bar area, bathrooms, tables, lounges, teak decks, snorkel step access, and trampolines at the bow where you can sit or lay down!
Your tour begins by all gathering in the lounge area where you will meet the captain and the crew. They will introduce themselves, give you an idea of what to expect on board, and give you a safety briefing.
Then you will enjoy hours of breathtaking scenery while you relax on board. About halfway through you will enjoy dinner as you head back to shore during a gorgeous sunset.
On many cruises, you can spot a plethora of dolphins, and sometimes, depending on the time of year, whales. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any marine life during our cruise, but I imagine it’s an incredible experience!
Our Unique Experience
One of our favorite parts of this trip was being able to drive the boat! The crew was so nice and although they monitored the waters very carefully, the kids and I had a blast taking a turn at the wheel. We are still so grateful for this experience!
Dinner on Board
Your tour includes a full dinner that includes an appetizer, salad, main dish, dessert, and drinks. The food is cooked fresh on site by one of the crew members (aka: the chef) and is brought to you, wherever you are sitting on the boat. We sat outside the entire time, since it’s less likely to get motion sickness there, especially in the back of the boat, but there are tables inside, too.
Garden Fresh Mixed Greens Salad (GF, Veg)
Grilled Filet Mignon (GF, DF)
Grilled Jumbo Shrimp Skewers (GF, DF on request)
Roasted Rosemary Red Potatoes (GF, DF, Veg, VGN)
Gingered Carrots (GF, DF, Veg, VGN)
Seasonal Vegetable (GF, Veg, DF upon request, VGN upon request)
Lime Cheesecake topped with Whipped Cream (Veg)
Vegetarian/Vegan Option

Chickpea Stuffed Bell Pepper on a bed of Mixed Greens Topped with Fire Roasted Red Pepper Sauce (DF, GF, Veg, VGN)
Cocktails (beer, wine and “sneaky tikis”), soft drinks and water.
How to Book Your Cruise and What To Bring
The sunset cruise is 4 hours long. Adults are $245 and children are $205. You can make your reservation for your cruise here! Book in advance because these cruises will sell out!
Also, make sure to bring a hat that won’t fly off, sunglasses, sunscreen, a waterproof camera, a towel, and cash to tip the crew at the end!
Motion Sickness Recommendation
Also, let me say that I rarely ever get motion sickness. The only time in my life that I remember feeling sick in any circumstance was on a small fishing boat in Cabo during spring break in college. In no other circumstance have I ever had motion sickness. However, when the Capt Andy’s crew suggested I take motion sickness medicine before coming on board, I took it just in case, and I am extremely thankful I did. This is not always the case, but it does rain on the island often, and we did have some choppy waves and some rain on our tour, making the boat ride a little bumpy, and I had some queasiness on the boat and some dizziness afterwards. So whatever you do, take some motion sickness medicine before getting on the boat! You can bring your own or they have some available in the lobby area before you get on the boat! But please do not let this detour you from taking the trip! Just come prepared!
