My family and I recently traveled to the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in Hawaii and had the most magical week in paradise! The Hyatt Maui has always held a special place in our hearts since this is where my husband and I spent our wedding week when we were married in Maui in 2011. We have been wanting to go back for quite a while and decided that going for our 10 year wedding anniversary this year and taking our children for the first time would be a perfect way to celebrate our anniversary as a family! Staying at the Hyatt Maui was also sentimental and special because I used to travel there when I was growing up with my parents so it was extra special to share those childhood memories with my own children and see everything through their eyes!
I cannot thank the Hyatt Maui enough for making our 10 year anniversary trip so special. This trip was a dream come true for us and are so grateful for their hospitality and special welcoming champagne gift to kick off our vacation.
And the Hyatt Maui just completed a gorgeous multi-million dollar renovation, so even though everything was very familiar the way we remembered it, it was also brand new at the same time! The resort is also home to conference space and a business center and so much more! What I love most about the Hyatt Maui is that it is a romantic place to vacation as a couple and at the same time it is a very family friendly property if you bring along your children!
The Resort
The Hyatt Maui is an oceanfront resort set on 40 acres on Ka’anapali Beach. It is one of the most breaktaking resorts I have ever visited with spectacular views and unforgettable sunsets. The Hyatt Maui is the only resort on the island with an on-site penguin habitat for African-Blacked Footed Penguins and multiple other wildlife including swans, flamingos, cranes, parrots, and other exotic birds!
The property is set just steps from the beach and has everything you need from an on-site luau and shaved ice, poolside cabanas, a swim up grotto bar, waterslides, and even a children’s splash pad and pool area!
The Beach
I love how close and family friendly the beach is in front of the Hyatt Maui. The tide can come up higher midday, so I recommend going early in the day to get the most calm waves. We took early morning walks along the beach, let the kids play in the sand and swim in the ocean, and even went snorkeling around the resort area!
The Rooms
The resort has 779 guest rooms and 31 suites, which include a private lanai with a glass balcony showcasing views of the Pacific Ocean, the West Maui Mountains, scenic golf courses, or lush gardens. And if you upgrade to a Regency Club® room, you can have exclusive lounge access, evening hors d’oeuvres, and other perks! We stayed in a double queen oceanfront room and it was perfect for our family of four. The view from the balcony alone was perfection enough, but the room was a very good size and came with a fridge and large bathroom area as well! The view from the balcony it etched in my mind as the most magical view I have ever witnessed in my life and I keep dreaming of going back!
The Pool, Water Slides, and Splash Pad
The Hyatt Maui has 6 free-form pool areas with waterfalls, an adult waterslide and swim up grotto bar area, a children’s area with a splash pad and waterslide!
There are also multiple cabanas you can reserve around the property. We had the O’hana tent for one of the days we were there and it is absolutely a must to do when visiting. To book a cabana or activity like hula lessons or yoga, there is a first-come first serve sign up at the Pool Desk the day of.
The Food
The Hyatt Maui has 8 dining and beverage areas around the resort. Here is a closer look at each one! We went to all of them while we were staying here and highly recommend each of them! You don’t ever have to leave the resort if you don’t want to because everything you need is on property!

Resort Activities
The Hyatt Maui offers so many activities around the resort there is something for everyone!
Wildlife Tour
We had the most amazing experience of going on a private wildlife tour when we stayed at the resort and watched the penguins being fed as well as fed the koi fish, swans, and other exotic birds! There is so much wildlife on property, it is so tropical and this was a wonderful learning experience for me and the children!
Lessons
The Hyatt Maui offers a multitude of classes like hula lessons, lei making classes, and ukulele classes! My daughter and I participated in the hula lessons and a special, private lei making class that the resort set up for us.
Exercise Classes
The Hyatt Maui offers complimentary exercise classes including yoga and pilates that is included in your resort fee. When I was there, I took some “me” time to self care and take a morning pilates class! My husband and kids couldn’t help but watch me from the room!
Tour of the Stars
We had the unique opportunity to go up to the roof of the Hyatt Maui and have a private tour of the sky! It was a full moon on the night we went and being able to see the moon up close was a moment I will never forget! The Tour of the Stars is one of the most unique activities the Hyatt Maui offers guests! Named the world’s top hotel for stargazing, experience Maui’s crystal clear skies with a night of stargazing and our rooftop astronomy program Thursdays through Mondays at either 8:00pm, 9:00pm, 10:00pm and 11:00pm. Subject to cancellation without notice due to cloud conditions and weather. Space is limited; reservations are required. Please contact the Concierge Desk to book at (808) 667-4727 or ext 4727.
Chef’s Garden
I love the Chef’s Garden where you will find chefs from the resort picking fresh produce to cook in their meals throughout the day! It’s such a peaceful area of the resort!
Games
The Hyatt Maui sets up games each day on the lawn
near the lobby for general use! The kids loved going out there and playing each day we were there!
Activity Center and Spa
The Hyatt Maui has a full gym, spa, and activity center where you can rent pool and ocean equipment to make your vacation that much more enjoyable! You can visit the activity center or concierge for more information!
The Shops
The Hyatt Maui is home to many shops on property!
The Resort At Night
The Hyatt Maui is magical in the evening. If you know, you know. There is a beautiful and refreshing breeze and unforgettable fragrance of flowers in addition to the gorgeous fire torches surrounding the property. don’t forget the sound of the crashing waves from the ocean! Taking a walk down the boardwalk at night is one of my favorite things to do since the island closes early evening and the nightlife is peaceful. And once the kids go to bed, you can sit on your balcony and take in the stunning nighttime views!
Health and Safety Measures
The Hyatt Maui has many COVID-19 health and safety measures in place including proof of negative Covid test upon arrival, social distancing signs, mask wearing around the resort, enhanced cleaning, multiple hand sanitizer stations, and elevator occupancy maximums.
Things to Do In the Area
We always make it a point to take a walk down the Ka’anapali beach walkway that goes all the way to the Sheraton where you can do some free snorkeling and cliff jumping! On our way, we like to stop at Whaler’s Village where you can find local stores, designer boutiques, fashion, art and restaurants. We love coming here for an inexpensive variety of souvenirs!
We also take a five minute drive to Lahaina! The historic Lahaina town is home to a variety of retail stores, restaurants, and other attractions. Front Street is known for souvenir shops, art galleries, and shops featuring local apparel, foods and gifts. We love eating a meal at Cheeseburger in Paradise and Kimo’s, getting some Lappert’s Ice Cream in town and shopping at some of the local surf shops! And when you are in town, make sure to stop at Banyan Tree Court, which covers 1.94 acres of land with a tree that is the oldest and largest banyan tree in Hawaii.
I would highly recommend going to the Road to Hana, especially if it’s the first time to Maui. It will take you an entire day to go there and back and the road to get there is very steep, narrow, and winding, so if you get anxious with heights or get motion sickness, please take precaution. If you want a taste of the Road to Hana you can just drive to the Twin Falls so see some natural waterfalls and short family friendly hike. Want to go a little further? Make the Halfway to Hana point your stop. There is a small food establishment there where you can get some banana bread or fresh fruit! The Road to Hana stretches for 68 miles and more than 600 curves from Kahului to Kipahulu. If you do go the entire way, you will see multiple waterfalls, rugged cliffs with breathtaking views of the ocean, lush rainforests, secluded black sand beaches, and more!
I highly recommend reserving a local water activity like whale watching, snorkeling, parasailing, or even a paddle boarding lesson! There are plenty of places within walking distance from the Hyatt Maui, just check with the concierge! You can also book a half day trip that you can go to locally on the island for a more immersive experience! You can also go on a helicopter ride and visit the local aquarium.
Haleakala National Park is a special and sacred landscape which covers over 30,183 spectacular acres of volcanoes, rain forests, and coastline. Explore, hike and take in the natural beauty, history and culture within various micro-climates of Maui’s diverse ecosystem. More than 24,710 acres of the park is purely wilderness area. Be sure to learn more about conditions, rules and regulations before finalizing any plans.
Extra Insider Travel Tips
There is a Safeway grocery store near the resort that you can’t miss as you are driving in from the airport. We always pick up breakfast items, snacks, water, and other beverages on our way to the resort for convenience and to save money in between meals. We often get bagels, fruit, sandwich items, yogurt, chips, etc that either go inside the room’s refrigerator or on the counter above the refrigerator. Don’t forget to get yourselves a bag of Maui chips! You can also pick up some inexpensive sand toys while you are there for your kids to play with in the sand.
Mahalo to the Hyatt Maui for hosting us. All opinions and photos are my own.
