It’s a new year, and a new you is in the making. They say it takes 21 days for something to become a habit. There are healthy daily habits you already know about like getting enough sleep and exercising that are extremely important to our wellbeing, but there are 7 key habits that you can practice to become the best version of yourself that can easily be incorporated into your daily routine! And trust me, these small changes can make a big difference! Creating new habits is a journey, so remember to be patient with yourself as you start on this new venture to become your BestSelf!
Reset Expectations
Be flexible. Days will not go as you planned. Days will not go how you want. And that’s ok. Be ok with change. Be ok with failed expectations. Be ok with being flexible. Start small and make measurable, reasonable, and achievable expectations for your day. When we make rigid expectations with ourselves or our day things rarely go as planned. We end up setting ourselves up for stress and feelings of disappointment. So start slowly to change your perspective to more of a growth mindset!
Enjoy Life
Life is too short to be stressed. So smile and laugh more. Studies have shown that smiling and laughing more throughout your day will add to your lifespan! So try not to take life too seriously and remember to smile and laugh as much as you can! Being able to laugh at yourself is difficult to do, but taking some deep breaths and being able to turn your frown upside down, will help your mental and physical health! Plus, when doing so, more people will want to be around you! You will show and spread kindness and happiness to those around you and ultimately be a happier version of yourself!
Fuel Your Day
This habit means to be extremely aware and intentional of what you put in your body. Drinking more water is an obvious one. Taking supplements is another. But what about protein? What about probiotics? Gut health and obtaining natural ways to gain energy to get through my busy day is essential to having a positive and productive day. In order for me to be my best self and help achieve my journey and goals for this year, you will find me eating FAGE’s new BestSelf lactose-free Greek yogurt as part of my daily routine. Sometimes I eat one of the blended flavors with my morning breakfast or have one as a midday snack. I also use the plain variety to add to recipes, to make a fresh fruit parfait, or even put on top of tacos or chili! I love that it is made with 100% natural ingredients including real dairy without the lactose! My children and I love the way it tastes and are assured knowing we are eating a high quality product! I have always been a fan of FAGE and am excited about this new yogurt because it’s lactose-free! I love the creamy texture and that it’s Non-GMO Project Verified, protein rich, low-fat, and made with milk from Non-GMO fed cows. And the 5.3 oz plain yogurt has only 110 calories, 5 grams of sugar (no added sugar!), and 15 grams of protein to give me the extra energy I need to get through my day. It’s now my go-to snack that helps me power through my busy day!
FAGE’s BestSelf lactose-free Greek yogurt is available in plain or blended varieties like strawberry, blueberry, vanilla, and peach! Please visit FAGE’s website to find it online or in-store near you!
Pay It Forward
What can you do to show kindness and give back? Maybe you’ll pay for the morning coffee for the person behind you in line, or maybe you’ll gather food in your neighborhood to give to a local food bank, or maybe you’ll volunteer somewhere in your community. Whatever you do, show kindness to others and give back when and where you can. Every smallest act of kindness counts!
Schedule Self Care
Yes! Set up a time for yourself to engage in some sort of self care once a day or once a week. Self care might mean going to bed early and letting your spouse put the kids to bed. Self care might mean taking an extended walk alone in the neighborhood and getting some fresh air and exercise. Self care might mean listening to your favorite music and taking a bath. Self care might mean curling up with some coffee or tea with your favorite book before anyone in your home is awake! The most important part to remember is to schedule it. Make self care a priority and don’t let it go more than a week to treat yourself!
Ask for Help
It’s a reality that it takes a village and that we can’t go through life achieving things alone. We are all motivated by someone and or something. And we can’t do it all. Yes, even the Type A, control individuals like me need help once in a while. We all need help and honestly, when I ask, even if it’s hard to do, people are willing to help! So who do you lean on for help? Is it a family member or friend? Whoever it is, ask for help. Delegate tasks when you need help. This will free you of over exhaustion and unnecessary stress. This is a hard habit to get used to, but will help you become a better you, because you’ll have more time to focus on who you really are and what you really want to do! Then you can return the favor when someone needs you!
Know your Values
Have you ever really thought about what your values are? And do you live by your values on a regular basis? There are 3 ways to conceptualize values: ones that are sacred like family, health, faith, education, or career, guiding values like wisdom and courage, and virtue values like integrity or kindness. Here is a list of some other values. Which ones do you live by?
- Dependability
- Reliability
- Loyalty
- Commitment
- Open-mindedness
- Consistency
- Honesty
- Efficiency
- Achievement
- Adventure
- Courage
- Creativity
- Determination
- Friendship
- Health
