A few weeks ago my family and I were invited to kick off the holiday season at The Disney Channel to see a sneak peek of the Big City Greens Christmas special and meet the brothers who created the show!
The show is created and executive produced by Chris and Shane Created Houghton (“Harvey Beaks”) and they are already in their second season, which began airing on November 16th on The Disney Channel. The series follows mischievous and optimistic 10-year-old Cricket Green who moves from the country to the big city with his wildly out of place family—older sister Tilly, father Bill and Gramma Alice. It is a very funny show that is recommended for children 6-14 years old.
The series is also heavily influenced by the brother’s childhood growing up in the small, rural town of St. Johns, Michigan, with many of the locations and characters inspired by real-life family members and childhood townsfolk. Cricket Green is also voiced by Chris Houghton himself! He even did an impression for us during the event!
The Christmas special has a very important message and A LOT of singing/songs that will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit! Basically, on Christmas Eve, Tilly warns Cricket that he may not be on Santa’s Nice List, so Cricket sets out to do as many good deeds as possible before the end of the day. You’ll have to watch the rest for yourself to find out more! But I also want to mention Christopher Lloyd (“Back to the Future”) even guest stars as Santa Claus!!!
