Long before I went back to school to get my doctorate and well before I was a mom, my previous career enabled me to interview celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Costner, Selma Hayek, and Ben Affleck on the red carpet. I used to dine next to celebrities like George Clooney, Katie Holmes, and Victoria Beckham at the best restaurants in Los Angeles. I was able to work behind the scenes on films with celebrities like Adam Sandler and Edward Norton. Yet, no matter how long I was in the entertainment industry and how many celebrities I met, I still found myself to be star struck. I know celebrities are people like everyone else but it was difficult to just look at them like anyone else. They were special. And the more they were in the spotlight, the more you knew about their personal lives, and the more they were familiar to you. Sometimes I used to wish I could go behind the scenes to see how they really lived their lives and get to know them on a personal level like their real friends do.
I have found myself taking the same mentality with bloggers. I have spent a long time following various blogs and social media accounts where you are able to learn everything there is to know about a mom and her family. We get to know what clothes they wear, what products they buy, and what food they eat. We know where they travel to on vacation including where they stay and what they do for fun. These mom bloggers share information about their personal lives and we get to learn their children’s names and get to see them grow up year after year. We have the ability to be immersed in their lives and we start to feel like we “know them” and it is similar to “knowing” a celebrity. Often we do not get to actually meet celebrities or bloggers but we know so much about them we look forward to learning from them day after day and admire them from afar. When we actually get to talk to them or meet them, it is similar to meeting a celebrity.
I don’t know about you but I love meeting new people. I learn so much from other women and other moms. I get ideas on parenting, fashion, trends, products, and places to travel. We are able to share each other’s experiences and bond over commonalities. The wonderful aspect about Instagram is having the opportunity to meet others I have things in common with and I have found that the other mom bloggers I have met have been very supportive of each other. Instagram is community driven and has opened up a whole new world of friendships and acquaintances for me.
Recently I have had the privilege to virtually meet Kelly Felschow, a fellow mom blogger from Arizona. She is a beautiful mother and wife and has a love for animals like I do. She is kind, down to earth, intelligent, and honest. She is a talented woman with a heart of gold. She fluctuates between 1200-1500 unique visitors to her blog each month and has 15.6k followers on Instagram! She is a very successful blogger and social media mompreneur and is the first mom I interviewed for my “Behind the Blog” segment. Links to her blog and Instagram are at the end of the interview so please make sure to check her out and follow along. I hope you enjoy her interview and getting to know her better behind the scenes and getting a sneak peek into who she is as a blogger, a mommy, and a woman!
Name of blog: The Vintage Blonde
When did you start your blog? January 2015
How did you pick your blog name? To be honest, my husband picked my blog name out! I thought and thought for days and couldn’t come up with something fun and creative that I liked and he said the name right off the bat and it stuck. I love vintage shopping and scouring for unique finds and am blonde so it just worked. 🙂
What is your blog about? It’s a mixture of things; fashion, beauty, lifestyle and travel mostly. I also love to share our day-to-day lives.
What is your current state you reside? Arizona, the valley of the sun!
What is something your followers don’t know about you? I was born in Spain.
What do you like to do in your free time/hobbies? I like to spend a lot of time outdoors. Hiking is a thing we do every weekend. We also love to do weekend getaways which is always fun.
Tell me a little about your family. How many kids do you have? I am married to my best friend, Ian, and we have a 4-month-old daughter named Kennedy. We also have a dog and 3 cats, all rescues. My husband said that’s enough pets for now. 🙂 We have a mini zoo going on!
What is most rewarding about parenting? Oh my goodness…I don’t even know how to answer this because I feel like everyday is so rewarding. Being a parent truly is amazing. Just her smiles are rewarding to me and it’s so amazing to watch her learn and grow.
What is the most challenging about parenting? Right now at this moment I’d have to say when your child is hurting…that’s the very worst. Kennedy is teething right now and it’s so sad. She will cry and I’ll sing her favorite song and she will try and smile through the tears and it just breaks my heart.
What advice do you have for new parents? I would say to trust yourself and just do what you feel is right for you and your baby. You will get so much unsolicited advice from parents, friends, and strangers and over time I’ve learned to just ignore it all and do what I feel is best. You know your baby better than anyone so just go with that and trust your gut regarding what’s right or wrong for your baby. Oh and take lots and lots of pictures and VIDEO! Kennedy is only 4 months old but it’s so fun watching all her old videos and seeing how much she’s already changed. We happened to get her first laugh on video and I watch it daily, it doesn’t get old. 🙂
What advice do you have for new bloggers? Be patient, you won’t get thousands of followers overnight. Just stick to it and do it for you.
What is the most difficult part of blogging? My blog started to really take off and grow during my 9th month of pregnancy and at times I felt overwhelmed…I have found that balance is key and not taking on more than I can handle.
What do you love most about blogging? The freedom! It’s so nice to be able to write about whatever I want and what I’m passionate about. I’m my own boss, too, which is amazing! I love it because I can stay home with my baby and do what I love. I write out most of my posts while she’s napping (that’s my quiet time) and have the rest of the day free to do whatever.
Why did you start blogging? I actually started my blog the very day I found out I was pregnant. I started it as a way to look back on my pregnancy and also to share with my family overseas and it took off and grew from there.
Has the blogging world changed since you first began? I’ve only been blogging for a little over a year so not much has changed since I’ve started.
What gives you your inspiration for content and photos? I love outdoor shots in nature. My favorite type of blog posts I’ve done have been candid moments outside on a hike or just everyday type of posts.
