Last year I started a segment called “Behind the Blog” where I interviewed a prominent mom blogger each month and this year I am starting a new segment called “Behind the Boss” where I will be interviewing a prominent owner/founder of a company each month!
I am so excited to kick off this new series with none other than the amazing Andrea Williams, the owner/founder of Tubby Todd! I met Andrea at a local pop up event at Au Fudge in LA a few months ago and we hit it off! The funny thing was that we both live in San Diego but it took us both going to LA to meet. If you’ve met her you know she is the kindest, warmest, funniest, and down to earth person that makes you feel instantly like a good friend! I admire her for running a successful business and also being a loving, hands on mom to three beautiful children. She is so hands on, in fact, she was baby wearing her youngest, James, at the event where we met as she was simultaneously selling her bath products to everyone visiting her table!
I hope you enjoy this new series and this interview as much as I did! Andrea was so much fun to talk to on the phone when we spoke and I can’t wait for you to learn more about her and what goes on behind the scenes with her family and her business!
And don’t miss my GIVEAWAY going on now on Instagram! Head to @theparentologist to enter to win a $30 shop credit to Tubby Todd this weekend! https://www.instagram.com/theparentologist/

What was the first year of your business like? Frustrating. We had so much energy and drive but it was a process getting going. We started developing in 2012 even though we didn’t sell products until two years later. It was hard to narrow down on things. Even ordering a cap was hard because there were so many options.
Do you still remember when you sold your first product? Yes! I have the $1 bill taped up in my office. Grandpa bought the first product on 8/31/14.

What do you like to do in your free time/hobbies? I love working and talking with others. I also love running and yoga.
How do balance being a mom and running a company? Give each thing you are doing quality attention. If I am spending time with my kids, I give 100%. I will have “dates” with each kid for 30 minutes each of devoted attention. Then I will work straight for two hours.
Tell me a little about your family. How many kids do you have? I have been married to my husband for 8 years. We have three children, Josie (5), Walker (3) and James (8 months).
What is most rewarding about parenting? How much my babies love me. They want and need me when the going gets tough and it feels so good when you are the end all be all source of love.
What is the most challenging about parenting? Balancing it all and having energy to do it all.
What advice do you have for other parents? Be gentle with yourself. Being happy for your kids is the best thing you can do for them. Take care of yourself so you can take care of them. They will see it too.
What advice do you have for bloggers that want to work with you? Reach out! And if I don’t respond, try again and again!
What is the most difficult part of being the boss? Sometimes it can be isolating. There is a lot of pressure being the boss because the buck stops with you.
What do you love most about being the boss? I can do things I’m good at and give other tasks to others to handle. I have a great team that takes care of things like invoices so I don’t have to.
What is a typical day like for you? I wake up, take my two oldest kids to school, come home and put the baby down for a nap and work. Then I pick up the kids from school, make dinner, clean, give the kid a bath, and put them to bed. Then my husband comes home and I work for another hour or two. 3 days a week I have someone that comes over and helps me for a few hours. Sometimes I sneak in a run or not work so I can have lunch with a friend or go to the mall.
Who does the cooking in your home? I do!
If you were to choose between a personal trainer, a cook, a housekeeper, or a stylist, what would you prefer? A housekeeper!
